Showers and The Neighborhood Weather Network

January 23rd, 2010 by Josh Poland

As you can see in the graphic above, we had some dry conditions in place in the lower levels of the atmosphere around Colorado Springs and Pueblo. We didn’t have much luck seeing precipitation with showers in those areas make it to the surface. It was a similar story in some areas a little further to the east. The graphic below shows some radar returns along I-70 headed towards Kansas.

I pulled up our camera in the Stratton area which showed a different picture compared to what radar was indicating.

A little further to the south, folks in Kiowa county were able to get some precipitation. The pictures below show what I saw on radar followed by what I confirmed on our camera in Eads.

Hail on The Plains

We had an unstable atmosphere in place across southern Colorado today. As a result, we were tracking several snow showers but we also had a report of some pea-sized hail outside of Las Animas from the cell pictured above. The Bent County Deputy who reported the hail said, “I pinched myself and I am awake.”
